Well.... It could be worse.... Right?

Right?!? Anyway let me give you a little back story for this escapade of stress and hormones that had become my life of late. Now this is a semi longish story I may have to split it between two posts and if I do I apologise in advance. To start off with my sleep pattern and hormones have been out of wack for the last couple of months with the stress of having to find a new apartment in the price range we could now afford, with my cut in hours and pay at work and having to drive 20-40 minutes there and back. We did find a place that fit our new and improved budget, but it is now more of a headache than the last place ever was and we have only been in it for two weeks. Now you may be asking yourself what could have possibly gone wrong in those two weeks to make me seriously think of breaking the lease.

First, we were told before we moved in that the security deposit we have them to hold the apartment might not actually hold it because at the start of April it was "Move-in" ready and they would put it on the market if we didn't move in on April 1st. This should have been red flag #1, we told the realtor that the security was put down to hold the apartment and there was no way it was "Move-in" ready when we looked at it in late March. So we were able to push back the move in to the 18th which is much closer to our original move in date of April 20th. So we signed the lease in the beginning of April, and were told that at lease signing we would need the money for a prorated months rent for April and we could turn in our first and last months rent together on the 1st of May.

Second, I was working on the 18th, because like I said we had originally planned on moving in on that weekend, so my bf picked up the keys from the on site property manager, and she wasn't home at the time. So do you know what she fracking did?!? Left the keys in an envelope in this little mail thing next to her door... Red Flag #2 yep this place just kept getting better and better. Anyway so the bf picked up the keys and came in to get a bit of a head start on moving things in. Only to find out that the bath tub was still rusted out and needed to be replaced, although to be fair they said when we looked at the apartment it would be "refinished" before we moved in. We were also told there would be all new appliences, Red Flag #3. So like I said tub still a rusted busted mess, kitchen still has appliences from the 1980's. And we were told by the on-site manager that the tub would not be refinished until mid-May... 3-4 weeks after we moved in, and she thought this would be acceptable. We told her we would prefer it had been done before we moved in as we were told the apartment was move in ready at the beginning of the month. She was addiment it would not be done before mid may.

So we called the property owners and let them know that clearly this apartment was not move in ready and we wanted the tub fixed ASAP. they said it couldn't be until about mid May and had the audacity to say we could still use it, Red Flag #4. To which the bf replied with "would use a rusted out tub to shower in daily?" The woman of course said no and he asked "then why would she expect anyone else to be okay with doing it" this shut her up real quick. And she got the tub scheduled to be fixed the following day.

Now as if this was not enough stress in the first two weeks of living in a place I can just say it is much worse as these things happened between the time when we signed the lease and the first 72 hours of starting to move in. The only new things in this "renovated" apartment are the carpeting and the kitchen countertops (not the cabinets just the tops) and even those things weren't totally done when we moved in. None of the appliences are new like we were promised when we looked at the apartment. It's like they just stopped renovating when they had someone on the hook for the lease.

But back onto the topic of stress, there is but one cable jack in this whole apartment, so it is either tv or Internet, we chose Internet at the last apartment and figured we would just do the same at this one. But more on that when the thought of it does not cause my blood to boil.

But now the kitchen sink has backed up 4 times and had to flood the kitchen before the property manager would do anything about it. I now understand why they require you to have double the regular amount of renters insurance and have it paid for a year in full. Ugh! This is what my kitchen looked like when they said it was fixed
There is no cabinet facing on the sink and the sides of the dishwasher are exposed. I mean I know I don't have kids but really how is this acceptably done by any workmanship standards? Long week ahead I will keep you all posted.

Thanks for listening to this rant, luv you all!
