I’ll be totally honest here, I was really hoping that my favorite memory from this summer would be the Labor Day lift off from this year. I’ve would have been the first time that my daughter would have been able to see the hot air balloons and she was so excited to go to the balloon glow last night. However reality struck when we got there; it was a major learning experience for me and my fiancé where the little is concerned.
First mistake, the balloon glow doesn’t start until close to the end of dusk. This is a problem because her bedtime is usually around about 7:30-8pm in the summer and I can count on one hand the number of times she has been out past 7pm.
Second mistake, this kid does not like large crowds at all, and this is one of the boggest summer events that our town hosts. Maybe she would have had a better time if it was just us and one balloon instead of about 5000 other people and 15-20 balloons. She did however love looking at the pictures of the balloons on the cameras we brought.
Third mistake, she didn’t eat dinner before the glow like we had planned, as a matter of fact she didn’t eat dinner until after we got home and it was fast food because we didn’t have a chance to grocery shop during the day. So instead of dinner at 530-6pm dinner wasn’t until 9pm. But at least it was her favorite chicken nuggets. But after dinner she chose to go straight to bed.
Fourth mistake, the balloon glow was at a park she had never been to so that may have added to her anxiety about the place. I know she doesn’t like being around people she doesn’t know and I have known for a long time that new places make her nervous as well. So all of this coupled with the new experience of the “big balloons” even though she loves balloons would have made her nervous and anxious. And she is only two so I cannot blame her for her reaction.
So over all I would say my favorite memories from this summer would be all of the times that we have gone to the park as a family the little adores the park and play areas near our house. And loves to walk there with one of us in tow. She loves the big slide and the swings. But other than that we really haven’t done a whole lot as a family this summer. So maybe next year.
